Horned Locust GoatScaping

When it comes to remediating land, hooved animals can play a key role. As they move through a landscape, they help build soils by stimulating root growth and fertilizing the land. And in semi-urban environments, goats and sheep are often preferable to herbicides and mowing for many reasons—augmentation of soil microbial life, reduction of allergens, elimination of toxins, minimization of flammable brush, and the ability to “mow” under solar panels and other structures.

Amanita Thorp Berto and her flerd (flock/herd) of goats and sheep regenerate landscapes throughout northern New Mexico.
